Girls U16 Win Gold At Provincials

The Girls U16 Blazers also defended their 2012 Championship compiling a 3 win, 1 tie and 1 loss record.  The Blazers who struggled to score all weekend managed to find a way to win behind the stellar goaltending of both Robyn Peddle and Natasha McDonald.  The U16’s opened the tournament Friday with a 1 – 0 win over Oshawa U16 as Hallie York scored the lone goal and Peddle recorded the shut-out.  They followed up a scoreless tie against New Tecumseth U16 as McDonald was perfect in the Penetang net. Saturday they dropped their first game of the day 1 – 0 to Oshawa U18 and edged New Tecumseth U18 1 – 0 as York again scored the only goal and Peddle stopped all shots fired her way.  In Sunday’s Gold Medal game, Rachel McIlravey scored the winning goal on a breakaway in the second overtime to give the Blazers the victory over New Tecumseth.  Emily Dampier scored the other Penetang goal in the first period.

The Girls U16 Blazers lineup included:  Robyn Peddle, Natasha McDonald, Olivia Secord, Miranda Hughes, Simone Smith, Rachel McIlravey, Danika Phillips, Devon Viragh, Emily Dampier, Emily Richardson, Chanelle Proulx, Lauren Hook, Tiffany White, Kelsey Coady, Rachel Handy, Ashley Frandsen, Julie Dunn and Hallie York.  The coaches were:  Gary McIlravey, Keith Secord, Kim Secord and Mike Handy.
