What an end to the season. Both teams leave it on the floor, and The Falco Steelers win the see-saw battle to lay claim to the title, of the fall Masters Champs!! The referees did not want to play a part in the outcome of this one, and without a single powerplay opportunity for either team, allowed both teams to play their game.
Steelers would take a 1-0 lead mid way through the 1st period, and would carry that lead into the second period. With some stellar goaltending on both ends, it was only fitting that only 1 goal was scored. The Lions would apply a ton of pressure, but Andrew Smith would not let anything by him. The second period started with the Lions repaying their goalie Chris Martin for his stellar performance, and 2 straight goals. Gus Kourousis would score the first, and then a few minutes later, Mario Cappellano with put the Lions ahead with a beautiful tip off the point shot.
However, less than 2 minutes later, playoff MVP, Vito Tomasicchio, would tie it up on a beautiful shot that Chris Martin had no chance on. Another quick goal would come in the favor of the Steelers, with Franco Andreacchi scoring just 1:24 to put the Steelers up 3-2. The Lions would continue to press, however Andrew Smith would make some huge saves, and allow the Steelers to hoist the cup!!
Congratulations to the fall champs, the Falco Steelers!! Credit is due for the Lions who played an amazing series, and just came up short at the end. Steelers need to rest up......Come Jabuary 26, the first ever Masters All-Star game will be held at the Hangar, and they will be matched up against the leagues best!!!!!
