Text Summary
What a start to the series. Both teams come out strong, but Steelers would come out of the first period up 2-1. First period had it all, with a goal called back on the Lions, the Steelers scoring off a friendly bounce deflected off the ref, and just some good hockey. The second period would see the Lions take over, and apply tons of pressure on the Stellers keeper. But Andrew Smith, plays stellar in net, and the Lions only scored once in the second on a cannon from Mark Duchich. Lions would come close with a few seconds to go, but Oliva's shot goes just wide of the net, and Steelers escape a thriller 3-2. Vito's goal for the Steelers, that Chris Martin would love to have back, holds up to be the winner the Lions leave the floor knowing they let one get away.
After the game, both teams got a scare when team veteran from the Lions, Dom Fusca, fell to the ground after the final buzzer. He was ok and taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with an upper body injury, and will be out of the lineup for the next 8 weeks. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dom, and hope for a speedy recovery.
