Text Summary
What a spectacular finsih to the season!! After a small delay waiting for the Jabronis Goalie flying up from Burlington, the delay was only the start of the best game of the season not for only these two teams, but the entire division!! Both teams came firing off the drop of the ball, but the two best goalies in the division, shut down both offences for pretty much the entire game. The first period was all about defence, tough battles in the corners, and good shot selection. But Andrew Smith in net for the Flames, stood tough as the young Jabronis were looking to the lay the smackdown on the Flames, and score that much needed first goal. However it was never to come as the first period came to a close with both goalies giving each other a tap on the head to acknowledge each others performances thus far.
The second period started off the same, as the Jabronis with the young legs came out flying. The Flames responded by tough playoff hockey, and some near goals by offensive juggernaut Paul Mauti, However, Daniel "THE ROCK" Lazzaro held down the fort for the Jabronis, and keeping the ruckus crowd at VSP on their feet.
Then when it looked like the momentum was shifting to side of the Jabronis, the big wiley veteran, Mike Santonato, unleashed a shot that was heard back in '81 when he first laced 'em up, that Lazzaro had no chance on, and the Flames went up 1-0. With time winding down, the Jabronis had to score 2 to force OT, and were forced to start taking chances. They came pretty close, but team Italy prospect, "Puch", put the nail in the coffin, as he made it 2-0 with 3 minutes to play.
Final score 2-0, and the end to an incredible game. Hats off to Jabronis for playing right till the end, and showing some realy class as a team. The playoff MVP could have easily went to Andrew Smith or Daniel Lazzaro.
However, with a great playoff performance, briniging leadership behind the bench, solid D on the blue line, playoffs points leader, and scoring the winning goal, the veteran, Mike Santonato takes home the playoffs MVP.
Good job to both teams, and see you next season...........
