Text Summary

For a game that started off like a classic defensive battle, the second period was just the opposite of the first.  With both teams trading chances in the first, the stellar play of both goaltenders, Dave Marchione for the Saints and Ken Harris for the Jags, gave both their respective teams chances to score the first goal.  But both teams were unsuccessful and the first period would end in a 0-0 draw.  Both teams looked like they were re-energizing during the intermission, and some House of Pain asking everyone to Jump Around.

The second period would start off just like the first.  Both teams continued to play a solid defensive game, but started opening up  a bit.  The Jags would come on strong and break the deadlock mid way through the second, and they did not stop.  The Jags would score a quick 3 goals, scoring 2 only 12 seconds apart, and the third within 1:37.  The line of Nelson Soares, Lee Druken, and Mario Lamberti would score 2 quick goals  on the same shift and the Jags were off and running.  Angelo Iaboni would add the third marker, and just when it seemed the Jags had this in the bag, the Saints would have a breakthrough of their own.  A minute after the Jags scored their third goal, the Saints would respond with 2 quick goals of their own, scoring 2 goals in 5 seconds. It seemed like the Saints had changed the momentum swing of the game and the Saints would apply pressure, and the Jags seemed to be playing on their heels.  However Ken Harris would stand his ground, and make timely saves, and would steer way all shots from the Saints.  The Jags would score 2 more, and would win game 3, 5-2.

This game had it all.  defensive hockey, great goaltending, fast and action packed offense, and great officiating.  Tony Pironcello and Walter Araujo let these guys play, and after the final buzzer had gone, both teams clearly found a new respect for each other, and appreciated the referees for letting them play "their" game.

The Steelers and Jags meet in the finals, and game 1 goes Monday night at 10pm.  Finals look to be shaping up to be a good one, and in the words of the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.....

"JUST BRING IT!!"
