Golden Effort as Team USA Captures Gold

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Once again, the host leads the way.

The World Ball Hockey Federation hosted the 2015 World Championships in Pittsburgh May 26 to 30.

The Americans would score early and often in each of their three preliminary games proving to be a very good front runner and showed the world how to play the up tempo game with tremendous skill and speed.

In their first game, they stormed out to am impressive win over India 11-1 which followed with a 6-3 victory over Slovakia who attempted to trap the Americans, but the attack was just relentless.   In the third game they would play Canada which was a much closer contest, but after two it was 3-2 on a penalty shot goal by Bobby Housser and Team USA would add the insurance marker in the third to win 4-2.

The quarter finals would be set up to split the ‘A’ & ‘B’ for the balance of the tournament and the top two teams in each bracket coming away with victories.  In Pool A – United States of America, Ireland, Canada & West Indies and in Pool B – India, Slovakia, Greece and Croatia.

The United States would face its first test of adversity against the West Indies as the game was knotted at 1-1 after the first period.  However, it is very difficult to keep the attacking Americans off the score sheet and they added three goals in the second and two more in the third en route to the 6-1 victory.  The win sent them against team Ireland and the top two teams in the preliminary rounds were set to face off for the championship.

The ‘A’ Pool Championship Gold medal would be decided between team Ireland who were big, strong disciplined defensive juggernaut with outstanding goaltending.  A collection of twenty five big, fast highly skilled young men that seemed to win every battle and the Americans would need to use their speed and skill to win the championship.

The Americans again would storm out to an early lead and after the first period they built a 2-0 lead.  The team would exchange goals in the second period and heading into the third USA led 3-1.   Both teams would add goals in the third and Americans would add an empty net goal and win their first championship 5-2.  The West Indies would win the bronze medal with a 3-2 win over Canada.

The ‘B’ Pool semi finals would see Team India beat Greece 10-7 in one semi final and Slovakia beat Croatia 5-2 setting up a India versus Slovakia final.  The final would have Slovakia win 7-2 and bronze medals would go to Greece.
